Grids and Time Zones

Hey Blog!

Today we talked about different things on a map. A map is a two- dimensional or flat scale model of the Earth's surface. The art of map making is called cartography. There are two reasons why geographers use maps. One is to see where people and activities are located and the other is to see why they are found there. We also learned about latitude and longitude. They are used as a reference tool to identify an objects absolute and relative location. They are also used as a communication tool to convey the distribution of human activities or physical features. Absolute locations the position as expressed in degrees, minutes, and seconds of latitude and longitude. Relative location is the regional position or situation of a place relative to the position of other places.

Latitude facts:
- They are known as parallels
- They run in east- west direction
- They measure distance north or south of the Equator
- They get shorter toward the poles
-They never meet
